Nirma Professor Collar Video Sparks Fresh Protest After Second Clip Goes Viral
After HK Patel’s on-stage collar grab at Nirma University went viral, a second “HK The Brand” clip and NSUI protest on 28 Sept kept the row alive. Probe panel details inside.
A second video of Nirma University professor H.K. Patel has kept a campus row in the national spotlight after his earlier on-stage collar-grab clip went viral. Student unions have demanded an apology and resignation, while the university says a three-member probe is under way, NDTV reported.
What triggered the first video
During Technofora 2026 at the Institute of Technology (18–20 September), a student heckled Patel—head of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering—with a Golmaal 3 line about speaking quickly because of a Panvel trip. Patel called the student on stage, grabbed his T-shirt collar and warned he could “go to any extent,” according to the same report. Patel has been with the university for about 26 years.
Why a second clip inflamed the protest
Amid ABVP and NSUI calls for action, another stage video spread online showing Patel in a T-shirt reading “HK The Brand,” repeating that “HK is a brand,” and saying in Hindi that “the father will always remain the father.” Critics called the tone arrogant while the probe was still open.
On 25 September, Director General R.N. Patel said a three-member committee would examine the incident. Protests continued on 28 September; NSUI workers demonstrated near the campus, police were deployed in strength, and gates were closed, news agency ANI said.
