This guide shows how to verify those details yourself using DigiLocker, MyGov, and India.gov.in — without relying on forwards or agents.

Why official portals beat WhatsApp forwards

Scheme announcements travel fast on messaging apps. Some posts are accurate summaries; many mix old deadlines, wrong income limits, or fake “registration links.” Official channels publish the primary text: notification PDFs, FAQs, and portal landing pages. When you start there, you reduce the chance of applying on a phishing site or missing a real cutoff date.

Treat DigiLocker, MyGov, and India.gov.in as reference types — hubs that point you to authentic ministries and departments — not as a single login that covers every scheme.

Step 1: Identify the scheme’s issuing authority

Ask three questions:

• Is this a central scheme (Union ministry), a state scheme, or a joint programme?
• Which ministry or department owns it (for example, Rural Development, Education, Social Justice)?
• Is there a named portal or app mentioned in an official press note?

India.gov.in aggregates links to many government services and directories. Use it to find the correct ministry site, then open that site’s schemes or programmes section.
